More than just fish & chips: how Fish Bank supports Sherburn and beyond

January 19, 2026

A business that gives back to the community

We believe that, to be a truly excellent local business, we need to do more than just serve up great food. We're proud to be part of the Sherburn in Elmet community, and giving back is at the heart of everything we do here. From supporting the Wombles litter picking group to fundraising for local causes and helping elderly residents via the Sherburn Visiting Scheme, Fish Bank is committed to making a positive difference in our village and beyond.

Feeding local volunteers

Keeping Sherburn clean and beautiful is a community effort, and we're proud to support the Wombles litter picking group, a fantastic team of local volunteers dedicated to tackling litter across the village. Fish Bank not only participates in regular litter-picking sessions but also provides refreshments for hardworking volunteers who give up their time to keep our streets tidy. It's a small way we can show a little civic pride and say thank you to those who care so deeply about our local environment, and we love being part of this brilliant initiative.

Fundraising that makes a difference

Community fundraising is another way Fish Bank actively supports Sherburn and the surrounding areas. We donate profits from our paper bags to local neighbourhood organisations and initiatives, helping fund projects that benefit everyone in the village. Whether it's supporting youth clubs, community events, or local charities, every contribution counts, and we're proud that our customers' fish and chip suppers help make a real, lasting impact in the place we all call home.

Supporting our seniors

One of the most meaningful ways Fish Bank gives back is through our partnership with the Sherburn Visiting Scheme, a wonderful organisation that supports elderly and isolated members of our community. The scheme connects volunteers with seniors who may be feeling lonely or in need of companionship, helping to combat social isolation and improve wellbeing. Fish Bank proudly hosts monthly fish and chip lunches for members of the scheme, providing a warm, welcoming space where friendships can flourish over a hearty meal. These lunches have become a cherished tradition, and we're honoured to play a part in bringing people together and supporting the long-term health and happiness of Sherburn's older residents.

Your local community fish & chip shop

Fish Bank is more than just a place to grab your favourite chippy tea (although we’re great for that as well!). We're a business that gives back to the community in meaningful ways, from supporting the Wombles litter picking group and fundraising for local causes to partnering with the Sherburn Visiting Scheme to help elderly residents. We're committed to making Sherburn a better place for everyone - so next time you visit, you can feel good knowing your meal supports a business that truly cares about its community.
